Online Sudoku Puzzles

Crossword puzzles and word search games used to be the most popular games of their type. Newspapers, magazines, journals, and school activities featured them. The popularity explosion of Sudoku puzzles in 2005 caused everything to change. Sudoku comes from the Japanese term for “single word.” These logic-based number games are quite challenging for players who don’t know how to begin filling in the Latin square. A normal Sudoku game has 9 sets of squares that are comprised of 3 rows of 3 smaller squares. 81 total cells are found in a typical Sudoku puzzle. They are divided into 9 blocks, 9 rows, and 9 columns.

The people that make Sudoku puzzles fill in some of the blanks with numbers before sending them out to be completed. The object of the game is to be able to place the numbers 1 through 9 in each of the 9 small squares in each set. The catch is that numbers aren’t allowed to be repeated within a vertical row, a horizontal row, or the same cluster of squares that the number resides in. From the top row to the bottom row, you should be able to see every number 1 through 9 with no repetition.

Each puzzle only has one correct solution. When beginning a new puzzle, some people have no idea how or where to start their quest to solve it. The naked single technique is the most basic way to attack a Sudoku puzzle. Look at the way the numbers are already filled in for a particular puzzle. The first place to look is for horizontal columns of numbers that are only missing 1 or 2 numbers. If the column is only missing 1 number, then you know what number goes in that space. 2 missing numbers indicate that you have to look at the horizontal column, the vertical column, and the single Latin square where the empty spaces are located.
