Learn To Fly 2, which is available at silvergames.com, is an amusing and challenging game. In it, you play the part of a penguin who is trying to fly. While that seems like a fairly simple concept, it’s a lot more complex than it first appears.
Learn To Fly 2 – After a rather funny opening scene, the game begins with your penguin at the top of a ramp made of ice and snow. The penguin then slides down to the end of the ramp and jumps off into the blue. The penguins’ flight is controlled by tapping the left and right arrow keys to tilt the penguin back and forth. Each jump is scored on several different areas, including your distance, altitude, the duration of your flight, your maximum speed, and whether you destroyed anything. All these different scores are combined to create the dollar value of your winnings.
Once you’ve earned some money, it’s time to go shopping! The shop is where you can purchase everything you might need to make your flights higher, longer, and more destructive, thereby earning you more money. You can choose from several different types of sled, booster, glider, and payload, all of which will help your penguin fly farther and faster than ever before. And once you have completed the Learn To Fly 2 – ‘Story Mode’, you can even purchase specialty items from the Bonus Shop!
The artwork Learn To Fly 1 & 2 is rudimentary flat animation, which looks almost like stop-motion graphics. This is an unusual animation style for modern gaming, and is very engaging for this reason. The music is a fairly easy to listen to straightforward organ and percussion piece that plays on a continuous loop – not very interesting, but not distracting either. Once you earn Bonus Points to spend in the Bonus Shop, you can purchase other styles of music, including funk, techno, rock, and even a pretty cool surf music track!
And while it may not seem like it at first, this game can actually teach you things. While it seems pretty easy at first, once you learn how gravity and wind resistance affects your flight distance, you will be able to extend the overall distance of your flight. This becomes especially true when you tilt the penguin forward or backward slightly. Play around with the possibilities; you’ll soon learn how to go farther.
Learn To Fly 2 is a great game for anyone looking to waste a little bit of time on something fun and easy to play, yet challenging enough to keep you entertained.
